Project Type: Luxury Retail
Project Start: February 2013
Project Completion: August 2014
Client: Valentino
Location: 693 5th Avenue, New York, NY
Size: 16,400 sf.
Challenges of this project: Tricarico was brought on by the client to be the local Architect of Record and manage overall coordination of the international project team.
With an aggressive project schedule and team members located all over the world, the challenge was to keep the project moving forward on all fronts. We focused on keeping the lines of communication open and maintained tight control of the information and files being shared, to ensure everyone was always on the same page.
Overcoming these challenges: Valentino assembled the majority of the project team early on which was key to the success of this project. It was vital to have everyone on board, in order to properly gauge the logistics involved in executing such a massive project on a compressed timeline, especially for Tricarico who was responsible for overall coordination.
In order to account for the condensed timeline, Tricarico produced a series of early permit packages to get construction going while the design was still being worked on in Milan, not the least of which was for the demolition of the existing eight story façade.
In order to help push this project across the finish line, Tricarico was asked to be on site full-time for the final four months, working hand in hand with the General Contractor and the client’s vendors.
Results: The Valentino Worldwide Flagship opened on schedule to critical acclaim and was the cover story for the February 2015 issue of Architectural Record.
